Remove clients

We are slowly decommissioning some DA servers so we need to remove clients.

What is the recommended way to do so?

We have mainly Windows 7 computers, that are members of Security groups to get the DA GPO settings applied. Would removing them from the Security group be enough or do we also need to clean the registry to clean the NRPT settings?
