I am seeking guidance / advice on how to best remove a node from a DA 2012 NLB Cluster and re-add a new one back in.
*** Background ***
We have two servers
Server 1 > directaccess.domain.com (Windows 2012 Standard)
Server 2 > server2.domain.com (Windows 2012 R2 Standard)
directaccess.domain.com was the first server to go in and is the primary node, however it was labelled incorrectly as in the server name and the wrong image was used (R2 Should have been the standard) along with wrong type of hardware (What a nightmare!)
Anyhow server2 was introduced at later stage and both are now part of a high availability cluster.
What i wish to do is remove directaccess.domain.com from the NLB cluster and provision another server with the correct name so for example server1.domain.com with the correct R2 image and re-create the cluster.
My only worry/concern is if i was to remove directaccess.domain.comfrom the cluster yes it will fail over to server2 but what happens when you try and another node back in with a different name? How will it react? Given thatdirectaccess.domain.com was the primary node and DA was setup using that server and name?
The reason i ask this, know when you provision a da server along with that it updates group polices / dns records etc. so by adding in a 2nd node with a diff name will it cause me issues?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
